Meet Noémie: Matrix Canada Educator & Natural Hair Color Expert

translated from french
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? Where are you based, and what do you like most about being a hairstylist?
My name is Noémie, and my salon is located in Sorel-Tracy. I’ve been lucky enough to do this job, which I love deeply, for the past 8 years. What I love most is the human aspect of it. The conversations with my clients, the moments we share, the encounters… every person who sits in my chair brings something special to me. I also really enjoy learning and sharing. Being able to pass on my knowledge, both to my clients and to other professionals, is something that is truly close to my heart. For me, hairdressing is so much more than just hair—it’s a connection, a sense of trust, and a genuine moment. | ![]() |
What fuels your creativity on a daily basis?
What fuels my creativity every day is being able to rely on Matrix, a comprehensive line of products that supports me in my daily work. It allows me to create without limits, tailor each service, and offer unique looks designed to bring out the best in every person.
Which Matrix product do you use most often? Why do you keep using it?
![]() | I perform a lot of bleaching services in the salon, so the Instacure Build-A-Bond line has become a real lifesaver for me. Whether it’s the shampoo, the mask, the porosity balancer, or the oil, these products help me ensure better repair while keeping hair stronger and healthier. When it comes to retail sales, I have to say that the Food For Soft line is definitely the one that stands out the most in my salon. The scent is incredible, it delivers deep hydration, and clients quickly fall in love with the results. |
How do you manage to balance your time between running the salon, parenting, and working with clients?
Time… it can sometimes feel like a real maze to me. Between running my salon, my family life, training, and my clients, I try to stay as organized as possible.
I make lots of to-do lists and keep a clear schedule to help me stay on track. It’s not always easy, but I still manage to keep a busy schedule while staying organized.
My best ally is really my planner… and my many reminder alarms!
In your opinion, what is the secret ingredient to creating a strong and inspiring team culture in a salon today?
In my opinion, what really makes a strong team at a salon is respect, communication, and genuinely supporting one another every day. When everyone feels comfortable, heard, and valued, the atmosphere naturally follows. I also really like the idea of helping each other, sharing our knowledge, and growing together, without unnecessary competition.
As a business owner, how does Matrix help you grow your business and keep your customers happy?
For me, Matrix is a true ally in both retail and coloring. It’s an accessible line, designed for all hair types, with exceptional quality that inspires confidence from the very first use. When it comes to coloring, it’s incredibly comprehensive: gray coverage, toners, and a multitude of possibilities for creating personalized results. It’s a range that’s easy to use yet extremely effective, allowing me to achieve consistent results and keep my clients satisfied every time. | ![]() |
What made you want to become an educator at Matrix Canada?
For me, education is absolutely essential in our profession. I truly love sharing my knowledge, passing on what I’ve learned, and equipping others so that, in turn, they feel more confident and better prepared when working with clients.
I’ve always had big dreams for my career, but I also wanted to stay true to myself as I grew. With Matrix, I truly felt like I’d found a brand that resonated with me. From the very first day I started using their products, it just felt right… as if this was the right path for me.
What is the biggest challenge stylists face today, and how do you help them overcome it in your training sessions?
In my opinion, the biggest challenge is the speed at which the industry is evolving. It’s exciting, but it can also be overwhelming for our stylists in their day-to-day work: new technologies, new products, new techniques… everything is constantly changing.
That’s why, as educators, we have to stay well-equipped and always up to date. Our role is to provide the right tools, the right foundation, and the confidence needed so that stylists can master these new developments in the salon.
What current trends, in cuts or colors, are you most excited about right now?
I specialize in natural hair color. Right now, I’m particularly fond of reverse balayage, which brings out the most natural and soft side of my clients.
Otherwise, golden blondes and warm tones are definitely among my favorites.
When it comes to cuts, I love anything that highlights the hair’s natural texture: lively, easy-to-wear styles, and tousled bangs that add character while still looking natural.
Consultation is a key step. What advice would you give for truly understanding a client’s needs and building a relationship?
Listening, understanding, and advice… these are truly the three pillars of my consultation.
I always take the time to ask my client how she feels about her hair right now and what her goals are for the appointment. I like to understand her story, her expectations, but also her limitations.
Then, I honestly explain the pros and cons of the possible options so she can make an informed choice. I guide her toward a technique and color that respect her hair, her style, and her reality.
For me, a great consultation is more than just a service… it’s a human connection where the client feels heard, understood, and confident.
If you had to choose one transformation you’re particularly proud of, which one would it be?
Recently, I had a client who had always been blonde, and we decided together to turn her into a redhead. The result was incredible!
She recently wrote to me to say that people stop her at the grocery store because they think her hair color is so beautiful.
For me, that kind of feedback is the best reward. Knowing that my clients feel beautiful and confident, even outside the salon, is exactly why I love my job so much.
If anything were possible, what would be your biggest career dream for the coming years?
Doing an internship with the brand would truly be my ultimate dream. I’ve always admired my colleagues who lead training sessions and take the stage to share their expertise.
I’ve often told myself that one day, I’d like to be right there with them on stage, sharing my knowledge and inspiring other hairstylists.
How would you describe Matrix’s philosophy in three words?
Innovation, Inclusivity, Creativity.
